The Docents are dedicated to extending the mission of the Museum as an institution devoted to arts education in the community and throughout the region. Through training and research, docents develop and present tours and other educational initiatives that lead to a better understanding of the permanent collection and special exhibitions. Friends of the Muscarelle Museum of Art
The purpose of the Friends of the Muscarelle Museum of Art is to broaden the influence of the Museum throughout the community by supporting its activities and promoting its interests in ways determined by the Friends, with the approval of the Director. For more information, contact Amber Pfenning, the Friends Liaison, at alpfenning@wm.edu or 757.221.2709.
Student Internships
The Museum offers a lively experience for volunteering, with practicums and hands-on work experience to parallel academic research. In our laboratory for experiential learning, students, as future professionals, can gain valuable experiences to further goals and interests. Our interns work directly with all of our professional staff, across departments, making valuable connections in the operations of an art museum and non-profit organization. To intern at the Museum, we ask that you commit to a minimum of five (5) hours a week, during a semester. This is a great way to get a feel for museum work. Hours can be filled with daily tasks, or special projects, depending on your interests and career goals. Internship applications may be found online here. For further information, please contact museum@wm.edu or 757.221.2703.
* All non-student volunteers must be members of the Museum.
